The cricket rivalry between the United States and Netherlands has developed rapidly through ICC qualification tournaments, World Cup pathways, and T20 internationals. Both teams have become important representatives of Associate cricket, with the Netherlands bringing a long-established international record and the USA building a competitive side on the global stage. The United States National Cricket Team Vs Netherlands National Cricket Team Timeline includes closely fought ODI contests, decisive T20 qualification matches, and several high-scoring encounters. From their 2022 T20 World Cup Qualifier meeting to their latest fixtures in 2026, the rivalry has produced contrasting results and increasingly significant matches across formats.
How the Rivalry Developed
The modern rivalry between the USA and Netherlands has largely been shaped by ICC events rather than long-running bilateral series. Their matches have frequently carried qualification significance, making the contests important beyond the result of a single game.
The Netherlands had considerable international experience before the USA became a regular participant in major global competitions. As the USA progressed through the ODI and T20 qualification structures, meetings between the two teams became more frequent.
The first major sequence of recent meetings began in 2022. Since then, the teams have played across T20 and ODI cricket, including World Cup qualifying tournaments, Cricket World Cup League 2 fixtures and T20I matches.
2022 T20 World Cup Qualifier
The rivalry gained a major competitive chapter on July 15, 2022, when the USA and Netherlands met in the second semifinal of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier B in Bulawayo.
The USA batted first and made 138 all out in 19.4 overs. Netherlands responded with 139/3 in 19 overs and won by seven wickets with six balls remaining.
The match demonstrated the Netherlands’ ability to control a chase under pressure. Bas de Leede was named Player of the Match, while the Dutch batting lineup successfully converted a modest target into a comfortable victory.
| Date | Competition | USA Score | Netherlands Score | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| July 15, 2022 | T20 World Cup Qualifier B | 138 | 139/3 | Netherlands won by 7 wickets |
This fixture became an important starting point for the recent rivalry because it was played in a knockout setting.
2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier
The two teams met again on June 22, 2023, during the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Harare.
The USA produced a competitive total of 211/8 from their 50 overs. Netherlands then chased the target successfully, reaching 214/5 in 43.2 overs and winning by five wickets.
The Netherlands’ chase was built around a controlled batting performance rather than a late scramble. The victory also continued the Dutch side’s strong record against the USA in their early modern meetings.
| Date | Tournament | USA | Netherlands | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| June 22, 2023 | ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier | 211/8 | 214/5 | Netherlands won by 5 wickets |
| Venue | Takashinga Sports Club, Harare |
The result was particularly significant because the match came during the qualification race for the 2023 Cricket World Cup.
2024 ODI Meetings in World Cup League 2
The rivalry became even more active in 2024 when the USA and Netherlands met twice in ICC Cricket World Cup League 2.
Their first meeting came on August 15, 2024. Netherlands scored 237/7 from 50 overs, while the USA was dismissed for 218 in 49.5 overs. Netherlands therefore won by 19 runs.
Scott Edwards was among the key Dutch performers in the fixture, as the Netherlands successfully defended a sizeable total.
Only six days later, the teams met again. This time Netherlands made 206 all out, while the USA was dismissed for 179. The Netherlands won by 27 runs.
| Date | Netherlands Score | USA Score | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| August 15, 2024 | 237/7 | 218 | Netherlands won by 19 runs |
| August 21, 2024 | 206 | 179 | Netherlands won by 27 runs |
The two matches highlighted a recurring feature of the rivalry: the Netherlands repeatedly found ways to defend totals against the American batting order.
2024 T20I Series Brings More Drama
The teams moved from ODI cricket to T20I action in August 2024. They met twice during the Netherlands T20I Tri-Series.
The first encounter was played on August 25. Netherlands produced an imposing 217/5 in 20 overs. The USA struggled in reply and was bowled out for 115 in 15.4 overs.
Netherlands won by 102 runs, making it one of the largest victories in the rivalry.
Three days later, the sides produced a much closer contest. Netherlands scored 132/8 in 20 overs, while the USA reached 128 all out in 19.1 overs. Netherlands won by only four runs.
| Date | Competition | Netherlands | USA | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| August 25, 2024 | T20I Tri-Series | 217/5 | 115 | Netherlands won by 102 runs |
| August 28, 2024 | T20I Tri-Series | 132/8 | 128 | Netherlands won by 4 runs |
The contrast between the two matches was notable. One was dominated by Netherlands’ batting, while the other went down to a narrow margin.
The 2026 T20 World Cup Turning Point
One of the biggest changes in the rivalry came on February 13, 2026, when the USA defeated Netherlands in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The USA scored 196/6 from 20 overs. Netherlands then struggled during the chase and was dismissed for 103 in 15.5 overs.
The USA won by 93 runs, producing its largest victory against Netherlands in the recorded modern head-to-head meetings.
Harmeet Singh played an important role in the American performance and was named Player of the Match. The result also ended Netherlands’ run of victories against the USA in their previous completed meetings dating back to 2022.
| Date | Tournament | USA | Netherlands | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| February 13, 2026 | ICC Men’s T20 World Cup | 196/6 | 103 all out | USA won by 93 runs |
The match was significant because the USA’s batting created a large target and its bowling attack then completed the job with considerable margin.
2026 ODI Meetings and a Narrow Netherlands Victory
The teams returned to ODI cricket in June 2026 during ICC Cricket World Cup League 2.
On June 8, Netherlands scored 196/8, while the USA reached 175. Netherlands won by 21 runs.
The contest followed a familiar pattern: Netherlands posted a competitive total and then successfully restricted the American chase.
A second meeting took place on June 14. However, the match was abandoned without a ball being bowled, meaning it did not produce a winner.
| Date | Competition | Netherlands | USA | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| June 8, 2026 | ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 | 196/8 | 175 | Netherlands won by 21 runs |
The June 2026 fixtures expanded the overall record while also showing how weather or playing conditions can prevent a scheduled international from contributing a completed result.
United States vs Netherlands Head to Head Record
Across the modern completed meetings documented in the available records, Netherlands has held the stronger overall record, although the USA’s 2026 T20 World Cup victory added an important result to the rivalry.
The teams have met in both ODI and T20 cricket, with the majority of their fixtures occurring through ICC competitions.
| Format | Completed Matches | Netherlands Wins | USA Wins |
|---|---|---|---|
| ODI | 4 | 4 | 0 |
| T20I | 4 | 3 | 1 |
| Total | 8 | 7 | 1 |
There was also an abandoned ODI between the sides in June 2026, which is not counted as a completed match in the win-loss record. The available head-to-head databases differ in how they classify or display certain historical fixtures, so format-specific totals should be interpreted according to the competition and classification being used.
Biggest Results in the Rivalry
The modern rivalry has produced several sizeable victories. Netherlands recorded a 102-run T20I victory in 2024, while the USA responded with a 93-run win at the 2026 T20 World Cup.
| Team | Biggest Recorded Win | Margin | Date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Netherlands | 102 runs | 102 runs | August 25, 2024 |
| USA | 93 runs | 93 runs | February 13, 2026 |
| Netherlands | 7 wickets | 7 wickets | July 15, 2022 |
These results show that the rivalry has not always been defined by close finishes. Both sides have produced dominant performances, particularly when their bowling has been able to exploit pressure during the chase.
What the Timeline Shows
The timeline reflects the rapid development of American cricket. In 2022 and 2023, Netherlands won the first two major encounters between the sides. During 2024, the Dutch team continued its dominance by winning four consecutive matches across ODI and T20I cricket.
The 2026 T20 World Cup changed that sequence when the USA produced a 93-run victory.
From a statistical perspective, the rivalry can therefore be divided into two clear phases. The first was Netherlands’ sustained dominance from 2022 through 2024. The second began with the USA’s major 2026 T20 victory, followed later by another Netherlands ODI win in June.
| Period | Key Development |
|---|---|
| 2022 | Netherlands won the T20 World Cup Qualifier semifinal |
| 2023 | Netherlands won the Cricket World Cup Qualifier meeting |
| 2024 | Netherlands won four consecutive matches |
| February 2026 | USA recorded its first win in the modern rivalry |
| June 2026 | Netherlands returned to winning form in ODI cricket |
| June 2026 | One ODI was abandoned without a result |
The sequence demonstrates that the rivalry has become increasingly relevant as both nations continue competing in ICC global pathways.
